6 Easy Weekend Updates
I'm always up for a quick home project! Not only are these 6 little changes inexpensive they are also super fast and can make a big impact! And If I can do them myself...anyone can! :)
1.Recaulk the Bathroom-One of the first things I mention to clients if the bathroom caulking is starting to crack or look a tad pink/moldy black is to re-do it! It makes a huge difference! Whether it's around your sink, bathtub, or shower remove the old caulk, clean the space well, and replace it with a new layer. Best part a tube costs $3.00.2.Tackle the trim work-Adding a quick coat of white paint to your trim can really brighten up a space...if your baseboards are fairly new give them a good wash and clear the dust from the tops!
3.Replace the switchplates & outlet covers-This is so simple and SO cheap! You can get elecrical covers at home depot for $0.79 and switchplate covers for $0.47! Cant get much cheaper. The only issue you may run into is if the old outlets and light switches are beige and you want to put on white covers you will need to change the switch and outlets. Again if I can do it anyone can. There are great "how-to's" online.
4.Update towel racks & add robe hooks-Another quick and easy update especially with stores like "Homes Sense" where you can find a great "Restoration Hardware" style towl rack for less than half the price!
5.Update door hardware-Another easy fix. Whether you choose to update your front door lock and knob or your cabinet hardware it always amazes me what a big difference such a simple change can make. If you have older cabinets on a hinge that is no longer available grab a bottle of Trem Clad and spray paint them the same colour as the new knobs! I've done it...they look brand new and I don't think anyone has ever said a word, until now!
6.Add a bench zone-A small bench inside a garage, entrance way, or back door can provide a convenient catchall for grocery bags and any other drop zone accessories. By adding hooks above the bench to hang jackets, hats, seasonal gear etc allows for a little added storage! Quick and easy.
